Will Spare Parts Still Be Available in 10 or 20 Years? | Tubular Daylighting Systems

A tubular daylighting system is usually purchased with the expectation that it will last for decades. Yet one important question is often overlooked before making a purchase:
Will spare parts still be available in 10 or 20 years?
Over more than 30 years, Techcomlight has seen the tubular daylighting market evolve significantly. New brands have entered the market, products have been redesigned, and complete product ranges have disappeared. This is a normal development in any industry, but it can create challenges for building owners and installers.
Imagine that a component is accidentally damaged during installation. Or perhaps, years later, a renovation requires the replacement of a ceiling diffuser, roof dome or another component. If the original product has been discontinued and spare parts are no longer available, what should have been a simple repair can become the costly replacement of an entire daylighting system.
That is why we recommend looking beyond price and light output when choosing a tubular daylighting system. Long-term product support is just as important.
Before purchasing, ask your supplier the following questions:
- Are individual spare parts available?
- How long will replacement parts remain available?
- Will I still be able to order a replacement roof dome in ten years?
- Can ceiling diffusers, reflective tubes, elbows and accessories be purchased separately?
- Is there a service network that can provide support if required?
- Is this product still part of the current product range, or is it being phased out?
It is also worth investigating where the tubular daylighting system is manufactured and how the company behind the brand is organised. Does the supplier have its own service team or an established dealer network? Will technical expertise still be available if you need advice, maintenance or replacement parts in the future?
A tubular daylighting system is not something you replace every few years. That is why the long-term stability of the supplier is just as important as the quality of the product itself.
A reliable supplier does more than simply sell a daylighting system. They continue to support customers for many years after installation with technical advice, service and genuine replacement parts whenever they are needed.
